Was hoping for your take on Bush, Jzk. Also will be interested in your thoughts on the Garrow book. I got it but I haven't read it though I listened to interviews with him. Certainly a fascinating figure and I find Garrow to be an interesting researcher and writer.
Having said that I find Garrow interesting, I honestly have somewhat mixed feelings about the deep examination of historical figures lives. (whether of Obama, or Malcolm or King or Bill Clinton or anyone. I certainly have some interest in understanding the way people mold their own stories about themselves but to some extent I am more interested in the way they choose to think about and explain themselves than whether research would back up the details (or even the bigger points). I don't know, like I said mixed feelings.
I'll be finishing the book tonight or tomorrow and honestly it is so long and contains so many details that I almost decided not to read it. I'm glad I did. For me I found the high school, collegiate, post-college, early Chicago, and pre-Michelle chapters most interesting.
I had a very simple take which was that the candidates in NY and Denver (and Detroit) could credibly claim to represent change and St. Louis voters were familiar enough with Cori Bush that they knew how she would handle the job. Also some of us had developed grievances from the first time around.
It could also not be good that I did not see one canvasser for Cori Bush and the DSA emails I got showed that DSA was concentrating their efforts in South St. Louis.
